Australia Launches Working Holiday Maker Visa Program for Indian Citizens.
On Monday, Australian Assistant Minister for Immigration, Matt Thistlethwaite, announced the launch of a Working Holiday Maker visa program aimed at Indian citizens. This initiative marks India as Australia’s 51st partner country in this program.
The visa allows up to 1,000 eligible Indian citizens aged 18 to 30 to apply for a Work and Holiday visa valid for one year. Those selected can live in Australia for a year, where they can work and study for a short term while enjoying their holiday. If applicants meet specific requirements, they may also apply for a subsequent Work and Holiday visa.
This new partnership is part of the Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (AI-ECTA). The application period is open from October 1 to October 31, 2024. Eligible Indian passport holders interested in this opportunity can register through a pre-application ballot process for the 2024-2025 program year.
“This program symbolizes the growing economic opportunities between Australia and India,” Mr. Thistlethwaite stated.
He noted that so far, 40,000 applications have been received. The shortlisting of candidates will occur through a random ballot selection using a computerized system. Random selections will take place from October 14, 2024, to April 30, 2025. The application fee is $25, while the visa fee is $650.
