Donald Trump Intensifies Anti-Immigrant Rhetoric Amid Campaign.
In recent weeks, former President Donald Trump has increased his anti-immigrant rhetoric, using false claims and dehumanizing language to portray migrants as dangerous and chaotic. A new analysis by Politico highlights that Trump has “demonized minority groups and used increasingly dark, graphic imagery” about migrants in every speech at his last 20 campaign events.
Since entering politics in 2015, Trump has consistently criticized immigrants, promising to lead the largest deportation operation in U.S. history. However, his rhetoric has become more extreme during the final stretch of his re-election campaign. He has made outrageous claims, such as accusing Haitian migrants of eating pets in Springfield, Ohio. He has also made comments about “bad genes” in non-white immigrants and recently suggested the death penalty for immigrants who kill U.S. citizens.
Ruth Ben-Ghiat, a history professor at New York University, commented on Trump’s statements. “So immigrants are crime. Immigrants are anarchy. They’re taking their jobs, but now they’re also animals who are going to kill us or eat our pets or eat us,” she told Politico. Ben-Ghiat added that this kind of rhetoric prepares the public to accept harsh measures like mass deportation, rounding up migrants, or placing them in camps.
