Indonesian and Nepalese Foreign Ministers Sign Key Agreements at UN General Assembly.
New York, September 22, 2024 — Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi and Dr. Azru Rana Deuba, Nepal’s Foreign Minister, met on the sidelines of the 79th UN General Assembly in New York on Sunday. Their meeting led to the signing of two significant bilateral agreements.
The agreements include the Diplomatic and Service Visa Free Agreement and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a bilateral consultation mechanism between Indonesia and Nepal.
Minister Retno Marsudi emphasized that these agreements will boost interactions between government officials of both nations and strengthen cooperation, particularly in trade, investment, and tourism.
During their discussions at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Indonesia to the United Nations, the ministers also explored collaboration in renewable energy, strategic industries, tourism, clean water management, democratic forums, and mutual support in international forums.
Both Foreign Ministers also addressed joint efforts to promote women’s rights in Afghanistan. The Nepalese Foreign Minister praised the enhancement of bilateral relations and expressed hope for continued cooperation, specifically inviting Indonesian investment in Nepal’s tourism and hydropower sectors.
Minister Retno Marsudi welcomed these developments and expressed optimism that the new agreements will yield tangible benefits for both nations’ citizens.
