Thailand Introduces New ETA Rule for Visa-Free Travelers

Thailand to Launch Mandatory Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) System in December 2024.

Starting from December 1, 2024, Thailand will introduce a mandatory Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system aimed at streamlining immigration clearance for visa-exempt travelers.

The ETA system will be integrated with Thailand’s current e-Visa platform, with full implementation expected by June 2025.

The new system will apply to citizens of 93 countries, including Singapore, Indonesia, Japan, and Hong Kong, who previously benefited from a visa exemption program allowing free entry for up to 60 days.

Each ETA will be valid for a single entry and will allow stays of up to 60 days, with the option to extend for an additional 30 days. The application process will be fully digital and free of charge.

Citizens from Laos, Cambodia, and Malaysia will not be required to obtain an ETA.
