Vice President Harris Condemns Trump’s False Claims About Haitian Immigrants.

Springfield, Ohio — Vice President Kamala Harris condemned former President Donald Trump’s unfounded accusations against Haitian immigrants, calling it a “crying shame” that the Springfield community is experiencing bomb threats as a result of Trump’s remarks.

In a panel interview with the National Association of Black Journalists on Tuesday, Harris criticized Trump’s claims made during last week’s presidential debate. Trump had alleged that Haitian immigrants in Springfield were stealing and eating pets, a statement that local and state leaders have debunked as false.

Harris expressed deep concern for the community, saying, “It’s a crying shame — I mean, my heart breaks for this community.” She condemned Trump’s remarks as lies fueled by racist stereotypes and demanded an end to such rhetoric.

Harris emphasized the responsibility that comes with holding a prominent platform. She recalled distressing images of elementary school children in Springfield having to leave school due to threats.

The Vice President linked Trump’s inflammatory comments to the broader issue of political violence, which has gained heightened attention following the recent assassination attempt on Trump. While Harris expressed confidence in her Secret Service protection, she acknowledged that many Americans, including those in Springfield, the LGBTQ community in Florida, immigrants, and women, feel unsafe in the current climate.

Harris revealed that she reached out to Trump after the assassination attempt to ensure his well-being and reiterated her stance against political violence, stating, “There is no place for political violence in our country.”

During the nearly hour-long discussion, Harris was questioned about her policy positions but offered few new details. She reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring that no working family should pay more than 7% of their income on child care, reflecting a Biden administration policy introduced in February.

Harris also addressed her stance on Israel and Gaza, calling for an urgent hostage and cease-fire agreement and reiterating her support for a two-state solution.
