TEHRAN – A significant step towards boosting tourism between Iran and Tajikistan was taken with the recent Iran-Tajikistan tourism roadshow, held at the Tajik embassy in Tehran. This event comes on the heels of a newly implemented visa waiver for air travel between the two nations.
Held on Saturday, the roadshow showcased the tourism potential of both countries. During the event, travel agencies and airlines from Iran and Tajikistan signed several cooperation agreements, marking a new chapter in tourism exchanges between the two countries.
Tajikistan’s ambassador to Tehran, Zohidi Nizomiddin Shamsiddinzoda, highlighted the global importance of developing the tourism sector. He noted that tourism not only fuels economic growth and foreign exchange but also fosters stronger friendships and ties between nations.
The ambassador praised Tajikistan’s President, Emomali Rahmon, for his efforts in advancing the country’s tourism sector. He pointed out that Tajikistan has successfully developed the necessary infrastructure to support this growth.
“Tajikistan, with its population of 10 million, welcomes 1.46 million foreign tourists each year,” the ambassador noted, adding that Iran is a key partner for Tajikistan in tourism.
The envoy emphasized the deep linguistic, historical, religious, and cultural ties between Iran and Tajikistan, which make tourism exchanges particularly meaningful.
He also commended the recent visa waiver agreement between the two countries, implemented on August 10. The launch of flights between Tehran and Dushanbe marked the first step in this initiative.
The ambassador expressed hopes that the visa waiver would soon be extended to cover all air travelers between Iran and Tajikistan.
In addition to the roadshow, Iranian and Tajik tourism professionals signed three major agreements. These agreements include the establishment of multiple direct flights from Tajikistan to Tehran and Shiraz, the creation of a literary tourism route between the two countries, and the organization of a Tajikistan tourism exhibition in collaboration with Iran, scheduled for early fall.
