Poland to Tighten Visa Rules for International Students
In May 2024, Poland announced plans to strengthen the criteria for work and student visas for third-country nationals. The Polish government revealed that a mandatory pre-selection process will be implemented for international students. Under this new rule, all universities in Poland must apply the pre-selection requirement.
Additionally, Polish authorities are considering restricting international students’ access to the country’s labor market. They also plan to increase the minimum funds required for students applying for a visa or residence permit in Poland. This will include a requirement for students to maintain a certain amount of funds in a blocked account.
These measures are part of Poland’s effort to prevent visa irregularities. Officials stated that visas for these categories of applicants will be issued in a more controlled manner.
Growing Number of Foreign Students in Poland
In 2023, more than 10,000 international students registered at Polish universities, with Indian students representing 30 percent of the total. Poland is gaining popularity as a destination for international students due to its high-quality education, diverse culture, and low living costs. The cost of studying in Poland is generally reported to be 30 to 50 percent lower than in other EU countries, making it an attractive option for many students worldwide.
