Immigration New Zealand Introduces Online Transit Visa Applications.
Immigration New Zealand (INZ) announced that starting August 12, 2024, nationals required to apply for a Transit Visa to enter New Zealand will be able to submit their applications online at no cost. The Transit Visa will be issued within two weeks of submission and allows travelers to stay in New Zeaaland for up to 24 hours.
The new online application process aims to simplify the filing procedure and provide applicants with greater visibility into their submissions. Applicants will be able to track the progress of their applications in real time. Previously, individuals had to submit paper applications at a Visa Application Centre. However, as an exception, Chinese nationals applying for Group Transit Visas will still need to submit paper applications while INZ develops an online option for this category.
Additionally, INZ announced that Fijian nationals will be added to the Transit Visa waiver list starting September 4, 2024. This change allows Fijian nationals to apply for a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) instead of a Transit Visa. The NZeTA application costs NZD 23 when filed online or NZD 17 through the mobile application. It will be issued within 72 hours and is valid for two years.
However, Fijian nationals traveling to and from Fiji via Wellington or Christchurch on Fiji Airways must still apply for a Visitor Visa. These airports lack transfer facilities. It’s important to note that Fijian nationals planning to visit, study, or work in New Zealand will need to apply for the appropriate visa for their stay
