ICE Removes Salvadoran Fugitive Wanted for Serious Crimes.
WASHINGTON (TND) — Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials announced on Monday the removal of Douglas Alexander Mojica-Cano, a Salvadoran fugitive facing multiple serious charges in his home country.
Mojica-Cano, 25, was arrested by U.S. Border Patrol after he illegally entered the United States in February 2016 near Calexico, California. Following his arrest, he received a notice to appear before an immigration judge.
ICE later took custody of Mojica-Cano and transferred him to the Office of Refugee Resettlement, which subsequently released him. In May 2018, a federal immigration judge ordered Mojica-Cano to be removed from the U.S. He is wanted in El Salvador for aggravated homicide, femicide, deprivation of liberty, and illicit associations.
On June 17, ICE arrested Mojica-Cano during a targeted operation in Petersburg, Virginia. He was deported and handed over to Salvadoran authorities on July 26.
“Douglas Alexander Mojica-Cano faces serious charges in his home country and posed a significant threat to our Virginia neighborhoods,” said Liana Castano, Director of the Enforcement Removal Operations Washington, D.C. Field Office. “He represents the worst of noncitizen criminals and has no place in our communities. ERO Washington, D.C. will continue to prioritize public safety by arresting and removing the most egregious noncitizen offenders.”
This removal follows the arrest of another illegal immigrant in Maryland last month. The 35-year-old Colombian had crossed the U.S.-Mexico border and was previously convicted of aggravated homicide in his home country.
