The Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights, a national nonprofit organization, is working to support unaccompanied immigrant children in federal custody. To increase volunteer participation in the Valley, they are offering free training.
In early September, the Young Center invites Phoenix-area residents from all backgrounds to learn about becoming a Volunteer Child Advocate.
These volunteers provide essential support to unaccompanied children during deportation proceedings.
The process to become a Volunteer Child Advocate includes thorough background checks and a tuberculosis screening. Once volunteers are assigned to a child, they meet weekly to accompany them to hearings, research the child’s home country situation, and advocate for their best interests.
Interested individuals must submit their applications by August 16.
