The Indian government has unveiled a new initiative offering Malaysian tourists a free double-entry e-visa for one year.
Starting July 1, 2024, Malaysia’s travelers can obtain a 30-day e-tourist visa at no cost until June 30, 2025. This initiative aims to attract more visitors to iconic Indian sites such as the Taj Mahal, India Gate, and Hawa Mahal. Typically, this visa costs RM465 (USD 98), but Malaysian tourists will now only need to apply for it before traveling to India.
Key Details:
Free 30-day, double-entry e-visa: Available from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025.
Applicable only to e-tourist visas: No waivers for other visa categories.
Existing e-visa rules remain: Travelers must still comply with current e-visa regulations.
Standard visa fees apply: For those seeking a regular paper visa from the IVS Visa Global Centre or the High Commission of India.
India’s announcement follows Malaysia’s existing visa waiver for Indian nationals. From December 1, 2023, to December 31, 2024, Indian citizens can enter Malaysia without a visa, provided they complete a pre-registration process similar to an e-visa. This policy allows Indians to stay in Malaysia and travel for up to 30 days per visit.
This reciprocal arrangement is expected to boost tourism between the two countries, making travel more accessible and economical for both Indian and Malaysian visitors.
