Dhaka: India will begin offering e-medical visas to Bangladeshi travelers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced at a joint press conference with Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The announcement was made during Sheikh Hasina’s visit to Hyderabad House in New Delhi on June 22.
The e-medical visa service aims to simplify the visa application process for Bangladeshi medical travelers, providing them with easier and faster access to India’s healthcare facilities. This initiative is expected to boost medical tourism and strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries.
Additionally, India plans to open a new consulate in Rangpur to improve consular services for people in north-western Bangladesh. The new consulate will offer services such as visa issuance, cultural exchanges, and assistance to Indian nationals in the area. This move is anticipated to enhance diplomatic ties and foster closer relations between India and Bangladesh, promoting greater connectivity and cooperation between the neighboring countries.
Another key development from the meeting includes the inauguration of the sixth rail link between India and Bangladesh, connecting Jakhoda to Agartala, along with the introduction of cargo services for northeastern Indian states through the Khulna-Mongla Port.
The completion of the world’s longest river cruise on the Ganges River, spanning between India and Bangladesh, was also announced by Prime Minister Modi, highlighting its potential to enhance tourism and connectivity.
