by Hyacinth

Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the ‘Fast Track Immigration – Trusted Traveller Programme (FTI-TTP)’ at Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport on Saturday. This initiative aims to enhance amenities for Indian nationals and OCI passengers, streamlining international travel through advanced immigration facilities.

The FTI-TTP introduces expedited pathways via automated e-Gates, ensuring swift and secure immigration clearance with minimal human intervention. Shah emphasized that this service would be provided free of charge, marking it as a visionary initiative under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership to benefit Indian citizens and OCI cardholders.

The programme will roll out in two phases, initially covering Indian citizens and OCI cardholders, followed by extension to foreign travellers. It will commence at 21 major airports nationwide, beginning with Delhi and including Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kochi, and Ahmedabad in the first phase.

Aligned with the ‘Viksit Bharat @2047’ agenda, the FTI-TTP underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing travel efficiency. Operated through an online portal managed by the Bureau of Immigration, applicants can register with requisite documents. Upon verification, ‘Trusted Travellers’ will be listed for e-Gate access, where biometrics will be captured during registration or airport passage. Registration remains valid until passport expiry or five years, extendable upon renewal.

At e-Gates, registered passengers will scan their boarding pass and passport for biometric authentication, facilitating automated immigration clearance upon verification.

This launch signifies a significant step towards modernizing travel processes, ensuring smoother journeys for travellers to and from India.
