PUTRAJAYA: The Immigration Department will upgrade the autogate service at Malaysia’s key entry points, including Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), according to Director-General Datuk Ruslin Jusoh.
On Sunday (June 16), Ruslin announced that the department would review and refine its processes to improve service quality.
“In partnership with the Home Ministry, we plan to install more autogates to accommodate the growing number of foreign visitors,” he said.
Ruslin emphasized that Immigration officers at entry points would receive continuous training to manage the increasing visitor numbers and urged them to follow standard procedures.
“Our department is committed to providing excellent service and welcomes suggestions for ongoing improvements at the country’s major entry points,” he added.
The initiative to allow foreign visitors to use autogates started on June 1, following the government’s decision to extend this service to travelers from 63 countries. This move aims to handle the surge in arrivals post-Covid-19.
Ruslin highlighted that over 13 million visitors have entered Malaysia for various reasons, underscoring the need for a quick and secure processing system.
He praised the autogate service for its efficiency, noting that it reduces processing time to 10 to 15 seconds, compared to the 30-minute wait at manual counters.
This system has significantly reduced congestion at the KLIA arrival hall, successfully processing 85% of arrivals within 25 minutes.
