PETALING JAYA: Immigration officers must declare their income before going on overseas holidays to help detect potential abuse of power and corruption, according to Peninsular Malaysia Immigration Service Union president GS Ajeet Singh.
Officers are also required to seek permission from their superiors before traveling abroad, as reported by Berita Harian.
“This measure is continuously enforced by the top management of the department,” said Ajeet Singh. “Officers planning overseas holidays must request permission 30 days in advance and provide proof of their income to show they can afford the trip.”
Recently, Chief Secretary Zuki Ali emphasized the need for department heads to monitor their subordinates and address any regulatory breaches. He warned that failure to do so would be considered negligence, potentially leading to disciplinary action.
This directive follows Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s warning that department heads will not be promoted if they fail to report misconduct by their staff.
