New Tseung Kwan O Immigration Headquarters to Offer Unique Wedding Venue

by Hyacinth

The new Tseung Kwan O Immigration Headquarters, set to open on June 11, will feature a 100-square-meter marriage hall available for use starting June 26. The hall, which can accommodate up to 80 people, is equipped with a wall that creates a starlight effect in various colors during wedding ceremonies.

In addition to the indoor facilities, a heart-shaped garden has been established outside the hall, providing a picturesque spot for newlyweds to take photos. According to Principal Immigration Officer for Quality Assurance Wong Kwan-yin, 46 couples have already reserved the space.

During a press conference yesterday, Wong highlighted that the new headquarters will also offer registration services for marriages and births. The facility comprises two 18-story towers with a total floor space exceeding 57,400 square meters. It will provide various services, including travel visa applications, Hong Kong passport applications, identity card applications, and services for foreign domestic helpers and migrants.

Although the new headquarters will be operational, the old Wan Chai office will continue to provide identity card application services until 2026. However, the mailboxes on the first and second floors of the Wan Chai office will cease accepting mail from June 11 and June 8, respectively. For travel document applications and collections, residents can still visit the department’s office in Central.

Wong also mentioned that the department is seeking a new location on Hong Kong Island to set up a branch office for identity card services after the closure of the Wan Chai office.

“The Wan Chai headquarters has been operational for over 30 years, but the space has become inadequate as the department expanded,” Wong explained.

The new headquarters is equipped with 44 personal documentation submission kiosks, offering a one-stop service for citizens to apply for Hong Kong passports and identity cards. Currently, citizens can use the kiosks to apply for Hong Kong passports and collect identity cards and passports at 10 kiosks in the new building.

Wong anticipates approximately 6,500 citizens will visit the new headquarters daily. To accommodate them, indoor waiting areas will be available, including nursery and lactation rooms for those in need.

Conveniently located at 61 Po Yap Road, the new headquarters is just a five-minute walk from the Tseung Kwan O MTR station and an eight-minute walk from Tiu Keng Leng station.
