The UK government has revoked the student visa of Dana Abuqamar, a Palestinian law student at the University of Manchester, after she spoke at a demonstration regarding the situation in Gaza. Abuqamar, who heads the Friends of Palestine Society at the university, stated that her visa was revoked on “national security” grounds, with authorities alleging she posed a risk to public safety. Abuqamar has contested this decision, asserting it violates her rights and has lodged a human rights appeal. Last year, she revealed losing multiple relatives in Gaza during an Israeli bombing. The UK Home Office declined to comment on individual cases.
Abuqamar previously faced criticism for remarks made at a pro-Palestine rally, which she later clarified were misinterpreted. She expressed frustration over being labeled as a security threat, emphasizing her role as a student and advocate for social justice campaigns.
In a separate incident earlier this year, the UK Home Office refused to grant a visa to Amena El Ashkar, a Palestinian refugee awarded a scholarship to study for a doctorate at the London School of Economics. The decision was made without providing detailed reasons, sparking concerns over potential discrimination.
