The U.S. Embassy in Mexico City has initiated a program aimed at expediting the appointment process for first-time applicants seeking B1/B2 visitor visas, effective as of March 20. Under this program, eligible applicants are granted the opportunity to reschedule their appointments to an earlier date at no additional cost.
Here are the key highlights of the program:
First-time Mexican visitor visa applicants who already have appointments scheduled for 2025 or beyond are eligible to avail themselves of earlier appointment slots throughout the year 2024, free of charge.
Selected applicants meeting the criteria will receive email notifications from [email protected] containing instructions on how to proceed with rescheduling to an earlier appointment date.
In cases where the appointment system initially displays no availability, applicants are advised to periodically revisit the system, as new appointment dates will be periodically added throughout the year.
In addition to the aforementioned details, it’s worth noting that the U.S. Embassy and its nine consulates across Mexico collectively issued 2.3 million visas in 2023, marking the highest number on record. Consulate officials have emphasized that the implementation of this new program is anticipated to significantly alleviate wait times for hundreds of thousands of applicants, thus facilitating travel for a greater number of Mexican nationals to the United States.
According to consulate officials, this initiative underscores the U.S. Embassy’s commitment to streamlining the visa interview appointment process and promoting legitimate travel to the United States for various purposes, including work, study, and leisure.
