The Hong Kong Administration Wing announced that the government will save HK$5.79 million following the relocation of the Office of Former Chief Executives (FCEO) to the Immigration Tower in Wan Chai. The office, which will be occupied by former Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, was previously situated at Pacific Place in Admiralty.
The total estimated expenditure for the new office on the 23rd floor of Immigration Tower is approximately HK$3.63 million, reflecting a significant reduction of HK$5.79 million from the revised budget for the 2024/25 fiscal year.
The savings are primarily attributed to reduced rent and associated expenses due to the move to the new premises. Renovation work for the Wan Chai office, costing about HK$2.8 million, has largely been completed, and Lam is expected to take up residence by the end of the month.
In contrast, the office of the former Chief Executives at 28 Kennedy Road, which accommodates three former leaders, has an estimated expenditure of approximately HK$11.53 million for the current fiscal year. This represents an increase of HK$710,000 compared to the revised budget for 2024/25, attributed largely to end-of-contract gratuities for staff.
The relocation and associated savings reflect ongoing efforts by the government to reduce operational costs while maintaining services for former Chief Executives.
