1st April 2025 – Hong Kong – Japan is set to expedite entry procedures for travelers from Hong Kong, with three major airports implementing new one-stop electronic gates this April. The Immigration Services Agency of Japan announced that foreign passport holders will be eligible to use the new system, known as Joint Kiosks, to streamline both immigration and customs checks.
As part of the new process, travelers are required to submit their personal information on the official Visit Japan Web site at least six hours before their arrival. Upon arrival in Japan, visitors will scan their passports and QR codes to complete the necessary immigration and customs procedures, reducing wait times by an estimated 20 minutes.
The upgraded system is designed to be accessible to all travelers, including those using wheelchairs, and features advanced facial recognition technology to further speed up the process.
The one-stop gates will be introduced at Kansai International Airport in Osaka Prefecture on April 1, followed by availability at Terminals 2 and 3 of Tokyo’s Haneda Airport on April 1 and April 11, respectively. Narita Airport in Chiba Prefecture will also adopt the new system at Terminal 3 starting April 7.
This move is part of Japan’s ongoing efforts to enhance efficiency and improve the arrival experience for international visitors.
