Thailand’s Long-Term Resident (LTR) visa program now offers a 10-year residency to professionals, wealthy foreigners, and investors. Recent updates to the program are designed to make it more accessible, attracting global talent to the country.
Key Changes to the LTR Visa
The new rules include the following:
- Removal of Minimum Income Requirement for Wealthy Applicants: Wealthy foreigners no longer need to meet a set income threshold to qualify.
- Lowered Corporate Sponsorship Thresholds: The bar for corporate sponsorship has been lowered, making it easier for businesses to support applicants.
- Expansion of Eligible Sectors: More sectors are now open to highly skilled professionals, broadening the range of talent eligible for the visa.
Eligibility Criteria
The LTR visa has several categories:
- Wealthy Global Citizens: Applicants must have assets of at least $1 million, with a $500,000 investment in Thai assets. They also need an annual income of $80,000 for the last two years.
- Wealthy Pensioners: Applicants must be at least 50 years old and show an annual income of $80,000, or $40,000 with an additional $250,000 investment.
- Work-from-Thailand Professionals: Applicants need to work for a company with $150 million in annual revenue and earn at least $80,000 annually.
- Highly Skilled Professionals: Applicants must have at least 10 years of experience in a relevant field and earn $80,000 annually.

- Check Eligibility: Choose the category that best fits your profile.
- Prepare Documents: Submit a passport, proof of income, health insurance, and investment documents.
- Apply Online: Submit your application through the Board of Investment portal and pay a processing fee of Rs 1.2 lakh.
- Wait for Approval: The application process takes up to 20 business days.
