Tom Homan, ‘Border Czar,’ Warns US Has No Choice But to Pursue Mass Deportations

by Hyacinth

Former Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director Tom Homan, appointed as President Trump’s “Border Czar,” defended his vision for immigration enforcement during an interview with NewsNation Now. Homan emphasized that mass deportations are necessary to maintain border security, rejecting claims that such actions are radical or un-American.

Homan, who visited Texas this week, made it clear that the U.S. has no other option but to carry out large-scale deportations. “If we don’t take action, we’re sending a message that illegal border crossings have no consequences,” he said. “The whole world will come here if they know they can cross illegally and face no repercussions.”

Responding to critics who argue that mass deportations are extreme, Homan dismissed their concerns as “ridiculous.” He argued that with millions of people crossing the border illegally, deportations are the only effective solution. He warned that failing to act would undermine the U.S. immigration system and encourage more illegal immigration.

Sanctuary Cities Under Fire

Homan also addressed sanctuary cities in states like Colorado, Illinois, and New York, which have resisted cooperation with ICE. He warned that cities refusing to assist in deportations could face legal consequences. “If you knowingly harbor an illegal immigrant, that’s a crime, and we will prosecute those crimes,” Homan said. He stressed that removing public safety threats from communities should be a bipartisan issue, urging local officials to cooperate with ICE to avoid escalating the problem.

Texas Land for Deportation Operations

During the interview, Homan revealed that the federal government plans to use land offered by Texas Governor Greg Abbott for processing and deportation operations. The land, which will be used for logistics and holding areas, will help save taxpayer money, Homan noted.

Focus on Criminal Aliens

Homan emphasized that initial deportations would focus on individuals with criminal records. He criticized the current administration for a sharp decline in the removal of criminal aliens, noting that the Biden administration had reduced deportations of criminals by 74%. “We have a large number of criminal aliens who need to be removed from the country, and that’s our priority,” Homan stated.

He also criticized sanctuary cities for impeding ICE’s work. “If you don’t want to help, at least don’t stand in our way,” he said. “Harboring illegal immigrants is a crime, and we will prosecute.”

Concerns Over Impact on Agriculture

Despite the push for mass deportations, there are concerns about the impact on U.S. agriculture, which relies heavily on migrant labor. While Homan acknowledged this concern, he maintained that securing the border and removing illegal immigrants would ultimately benefit the country as a whole.

Addressing Vulnerable Migrants

Homan also addressed the plight of vulnerable migrants, particularly women and children. He pointed to the dangers posed by cartels and human traffickers, noting that under the Biden administration, nearly 4,000 migrants have died while attempting to cross the border. Homan argued that securing the border would reduce these tragic deaths, highlighting that the Trump administration’s policies were more effective in preventing such incidents.

The Path Forward

Looking ahead, Homan reiterated that Trump’s policies would be reinstated and strengthened. He proposed a return to the “Remain in Mexico” policy, which required asylum seekers to wait in Mexico for their hearings. “If you’re truly fleeing persecution, you will wait for your hearing,” he said. “If you win your case, welcome to the U.S. If you don’t, you’ll be removed.”

Tensions with Mexico

Finally, Homan weighed in on recent tensions between President Trump and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum over the handling of illegal immigration. While Trump has called for Mexico to take stronger action against cartels and illegal migration, Sheinbaum has denied that Mexico has agreed to major policy changes. Homan expressed disappointment that Mexico’s leadership has not done more to curb illegal migration, criticizing the country’s complicity in allowing human trafficking and drug smuggling.

“Cartels control much of Mexico, and that’s putting lives at risk on both sides of the border,” Homan said. “Mexico needs to step up and secure its borders to protect both its citizens and ours.”

In conclusion, Homan maintained that the U.S. must send a clear message: illegal immigration will not be tolerated. “We have to secure the border to save lives and protect our communities,” he stated. “We will continue the work we started under President Trump and finish what we began.”
