Ted Cruz Predicts Illegal Immigration Will ‘Drop Sharply’ Right After Trump’s Inauguration

by Hyacinth

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, predicted that illegal immigration will drop sharply after President-elect Donald Trump takes office in January.

Cruz shared his expectations during an appearance on CBS’ *Face the Nation* with host Margaret Brennan. He suggested that the decline in illegal immigration would begin soon after Trump is inaugurated, pointing to Trump’s plan to reinstate the “remain in Mexico” policy.

“I predict that illegal immigration numbers will plummet in the first couple of months of the new administration,” Cruz said. “Not in a year, but in January and February. We’ll have a president who will enforce the law vigorously.”

Cruz also discussed Trump’s use of tariffs to push Mexico to help curb illegal border crossings. Trump recently spoke with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, who, according to Cruz, showed willingness to cooperate with the U.S. on border security.

Cruz praised Trump’s leverage tactics, noting that the threat of tariffs has already led to action. “We’ve seen the president of Mexico stand up and promise to work hand in hand with President Trump to secure the border,” Cruz said.

Trump has also been in discussions with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, whom he met with at his Mar-a-Lago club in West Palm Beach. The two leaders talked about issues including fentanyl trafficking, trade policies, and the U.S.-Canada trade deficit.

Trump previously threatened to impose 25% tariffs on both Mexico and Canada over their failure to stop the flow of illegal immigration and drugs into the U.S. He wrote on Truth Social that he had made it clear to Trudeau that the U.S. would no longer tolerate the “scourge” of drugs, particularly fentanyl, entering the country.

“I made it very clear that the U.S. will no longer stand by as our citizens fall victim to this drug epidemic,” Trump posted, emphasizing the devastating impact on American families.
