Canada’s immigration system is facing a crisis, and Dr. Jordan Peterson, a renowned clinical psychologist, blames Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his leadership for the chaos.
Peterson appeared on Fox News over the weekend, telling host Brian Kilmeade that Trudeau’s policies have “demolished” the Canadian immigration system. He accused the prime minister of opening the borders too wide, which has led to a “catastrophic crisis.”
“The policies Trudeau put in place have destroyed decades of effective immigration policy,” Peterson said. “He was quick to blame educational institutions and corporate actors for the problems, but in reality, the failures are entirely his fault.”
Peterson didn’t hold back, describing Trudeau and his team as “demented minions” responsible for the immigration issues. “Now that things are out of control, Trudeau has no choice but to backtrack and blame others. It’s exactly what you would expect from someone like him,” Peterson added.
In response, Trudeau acknowledged the rapid population growth Canada has experienced in recent years. Speaking on YouTube, he admitted that Canada could have acted faster to manage the surge in migrants after the COVID-19 pandemic.
He also shifted some of the blame onto other entities, claiming that fake colleges and large corporations had exploited the system for their benefit. “In the last two years, our population grew rapidly, and bad actors like fake colleges and big corporations have taken advantage of the system,” Trudeau said.
As a solution, Trudeau announced plans to reduce immigration numbers. The Canadian government will limit the number of temporary foreign workers and cut the number of permanent residents entering the country by up to 27% by 2027.
Opposition leader Pierre Poilievre criticized Trudeau’s handling of immigration, saying the prime minister is now trying to fix problems he created. During a recent podcast, Poilievre stated that Trudeau’s reversal only highlights his failure. “Trudeau is now denouncing his own immigration policy and expects Canadians to believe he can fix it,” Poilievre said.
Poilievre stressed the need for Canada to restore its immigration system to what he called the best system in the world, one that has allowed people, like his wife, to enter the country legally and pursue a better life.
