President-elect Donald Trump announced several key appointments to his incoming administration on Monday, including naming long-time adviser Stephen Miller as deputy policy chief. These appointments signal a strong stance on illegal immigration.
Stephen Miller Appointed Deputy Policy Chief
Miller, one of Trump’s longest-serving aides, has played a central role in many of the president’s key decisions, including the controversial 2018 policy that separated immigrant families as a deterrent. Miller left the White House after Trump’s first term and later became president of America First Legal, a conservative group that challenges the Biden administration on issues like free speech and national security.
Vice President-elect JD Vance praised the appointment on social media, calling it “another fantastic pick” for the Trump administration.
Mike Waltz Named National Security Adviser
Trump selected Mike Waltz, a three-term Republican congressman and former Green Beret, to be his national security adviser. Waltz won re-election last week and has served on key committees, including the House Armed Services Subcommittee and the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. He is a strong critic of China and has advocated for increased U.S. readiness in the Asia-Pacific region.
Tom Homan to Lead Border Security
Trump also appointed Tom Homan, former acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), as his “border czar.” Homan, who led ICE from 2017 to 2018, will oversee efforts to deport illegal immigrants and strengthen border security.
Trump announced the appointment on Truth Social, stating that Homan will lead efforts to deport illegal aliens. Homan has pledged to run the largest deportation operation in U.S. history if Trump is re-elected.
Elise Stefanik Tapped for UN Ambassador
Trump nominated Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York to be the next U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. Stefanik, a key Trump ally since 2014, supported the president during both of his impeachment trials and his criminal indictments. Although Stefanik lacks foreign policy experience, she has been a vocal supporter of Israel in its conflict with Hamas.
