Funding Boost for SACSS to Expand Services for Immigrant Communities.
The South Asian Council for Social Services (SACSS), a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting underserved immigrant communities, has secured $850,000 in funding from U.S. Representative Grace Meng. This financial support will enable SACSS to purchase a new space and enhance its services.
On Thursday, October 24, Rep. Meng presented a check to SACSS at the SACSS Senior Center, located at 143-02 45th Ave. in Flushing. The funds will help the organization buy the building where it currently runs workforce development programs, such as sewing, English language classes, and computer training.
SACSS aims to use the new space to create a permanent home for its programs while launching additional initiatives to meet the needs of immigrant communities. The new facility will allow the organization to expand its offerings, including educational, cultural, and social support services.
Rep. Meng commended SACSS for its advocacy work on behalf of South Asian and other immigrant communities in New York. She emphasized that the funding would help ensure equitable access to government resources for all.
“This funding is a token of our appreciation for SACSS and its efforts to uplift our community. It will help ensure that as many people as possible can access government services,” Meng stated.
Sudha Acharya, executive director of SACSS, expressed gratitude for the funding, noting that it brings the organization closer to its goal of expanding services for the local community it has supported for over 20 years.
“This generous contribution helps us move toward our goal of enhancing SACSS’s programs and services in a stable, long-term home in the Flushing community, which we have served for 24 years,” Acharya said.
Founded in 2000, SACSS works to empower and integrate underserved South Asian and immigrant communities into New York City’s economic and civic life. The organization provides essential services, including food security, healthcare access, senior services, and workforce training, offering free programming in over 20 languages.
