Trump Calls U.S. a ‘Garbage Can’ in Arizona Campaign Rally.

Donald Trump held a rally in Tempe, Arizona, on Thursday, where he criticized the Biden administration’s immigration policies, describing the country as a “garbage can.” This remark marked the first time he has used that phrase in his speeches.

“It’s the first time I’ve ever said that,” Trump stated, speaking in front of a crowd at Arizona State University. “Every time I come up and talk about what they’ve done to our country, I get angry. It’s a very accurate description.”

As election day approaches, candidates from both major parties are intensively campaigning in key swing states like Arizona. Earlier this week, Republican vice-presidential candidate JD Vance held two rallies in the state. Joe Biden, former president Barack Obama, and Democratic vice-presidential nominee Tim Walz are also scheduled to visit Arizona soon.

A large banner at Trump’s rally urged attendees to “Vote early!” This represents a shift in strategy for Trump and Republicans, who have previously raised concerns about early and mail-in voting, alleging it leads to widespread fraud. Trump stated that Arizona’s voting process has issues, emphasizing, “Gotta make it too big to rig.” Before his speech, an image of Trump with a raised fist and a bloodied ear, from a recent assassination attempt, was displayed on screen.

Trump declared, “We must defeat Kamala Harris and stop a radical left agenda with a landslide that is simply too big to rig.” He expressed confidence in the campaign, stating, “If these numbers hold up, why wouldn’t they? Who the hell wants these people in office?”

Immigration was a central theme of his speech. Trump criticized the Biden administration’s immigration policies as “the most egregious betrayal” in American history, accusing it of allowing “an army of migrant gangs” into the country. He proposed several policies aimed at immigration reform, including:

  • The death penalty for migrants who kill American citizens or law enforcement officers.
  • Ending flights for migrants.
  • Outlawing sanctuary cities.
  • Hiring an additional 10,000 border agents and increasing their pay.

Trump also linked immigration to Medicare and Social Security, claiming that an influx of migrants would “obliterate” these programs. He argued that Latino and Black workers are losing jobs to migrants, aiming to appeal to these demographics.

During the rally, Trump labeled Biden a “stupid fool” and Nancy Pelosi “crazy as a bed bug.” He described Kamala Harris as a “low IQ individual” and urged women in the audience to encourage their husbands to vote, saying, “Get your fat ass off the couch, you’re going to vote, Jimmy, you’re going to vote, we’re going to save our country, Jimmy.”

Trump praised Elon Musk, the owner of X, for his vocal support and financial backing. He highlighted Musk’s businesses, including Starlink and SpaceX, and promised to “land an American astronaut on Mars” if he is re-elected. “Thank you, Elon, thank you,” he remarked, acknowledging Musk’s endorsement as critical, saying, “He said that we will not have a country if we don’t win this election. And he is a smart cookie.”

At the end of the rally, Trump again recognized former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, known for his strict immigration policies, asking him to stand and receive applause, though he did not kiss him on the cheek as he had in a previous rally.
