Canada to Tighten Temporary Residence Visa Regulations.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) plans to introduce stricter regulations for temporary residence visas. The Canadian government aims to revise the immigration level plan for 2025-2027 before November 1. This change will impact work permits, study permits, visitor permits, and temporary resident visas.

Marc Miller, the head of the Canada immigration department, announced that the draft policy for temporary residency visas will undergo amendments.

In 2023, Canada approved over 2.5 million temporary residency applications, which represented 6.2% of all residency applications. However, Miller noted that the new temporary residency policy will result in a 5% decrease in residency approvals over the next three years.

In January, the IRCC processed 606,000 applications for student visas, with only 360,000 accepted. This marks a significant decline of 35%. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau addressed this issue on X, stating, “We’re granting 35% fewer international student permits.”
