China Expands Visa-Free Access to Poland and 11 European Nations to Boost Tourism

by Hyacinth

China has expanded its visa-free entry program to include Poland and 11 other European nations, aiming to stimulate tourism and business exchanges.

Starting July 1, Polish citizens can visit China without a visa, joining Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Spain, and Switzerland in the initiative set to last until the end of 2025. This expansion is part of China’s efforts to revive international travel following pandemic-related restrictions.

According to China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning, the move is intended to facilitate high-quality exchanges between Chinese and foreign nationals. Under the trial program, visitors can stay visa-free for up to 15 days.

Despite China lifting its pandemic-related quarantines last year, international travel to the country has yet to return to pre-pandemic levels. In 2023, China recorded 35.5 million entries and exits by foreigners, significantly lower than the 97.7 million in 2019.

To further encourage travel from Europe, China has seen a significant increase in bookings from the region, with a 663% rise compared to 2022, as reported by Trip.com. Major cities like Shanghai and Beijing remain top destinations, while emerging spots like Sanya and Chengdu are also gaining popularity.

Beyond visa policies, China is enhancing its tourism infrastructure, including cultural promotions and technological investments, to attract more international visitors and boost its economy.
