Five local organizations in Windsor-Roseland were honored for their dedication to supporting immigrants and refugees by the Rotary Club. The recognition ceremony took place at the Fogolar Furlan Club as part of the Peace Organization Project.
The project’s aim is to acknowledge community groups committed to fostering peace and providing assistance to a diverse range of individuals, including immigrants, refugees, and youth. It seeks to cultivate a sense of belonging through education and counseling.
The honored organizations include the Multicultural Council of Windsor and Essex County, New Canadians’ Centre of Excellence Inc., Windsor Women Working with Immigrant Women (W5), Women’s Enterprise Skills Training of Windsor Inc., and YMCA of Southwestern Ontario.
Aruna Koushik, President of the Windsor-Roseland Rotary Club, emphasized the significant contributions of these organizations to the community’s well-being. She highlighted their efforts in settling immigrants, organizing events like the Carousel of Nations, and fostering peace and harmony.
Koushik underscored the longstanding partnerships between Rotary members and these organizations, emphasizing the importance of recognizing their tireless work. She expressed pride in Rotary’s global connections and its commitment to leadership.
Notably, Windsor was designated a “Peace City” in 2001, in collaboration with Windsor-Roseland Rotary. Subsequently, the Peace School program was initiated to promote a safe and welcoming environment in partnership with the City of Windsor.
