The TOEFL iBT test has been given the green light again for Australian visa applications, effective May 5, 2024, as announced by the Educational Testing Service (ETS).
This decision marks a reversal from last year’s move by the Australian Department of Home Affairs (DHA), which temporarily halted the acceptance of TOEFL iBT for visa purposes on July 26, 2023.
After a thorough assessment, the DHA has concluded that the enhanced TOEFL iBT meets its stringent English proficiency standards. Expressing appreciation for this validation, ETS stated, “We appreciate the DHA’s exacting standards for English proficiency and their recognition that the TOEFL iBT upholds them.”
The TOEFL iBT is globally recognized as a leading assessment of academic English proficiency and is accepted by over 12,500 institutions worldwide.
Key points to remember:
TOEFL iBT must be taken at an approved test center since the Australian government does not accept tests conducted online.
Tests administered between July 26, 2023, and May 4, 2024, will not be considered valid for visa purposes.
Tests taken before July 26, 2023, will remain valid.
