South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster, joined by 25 other Republican governors, has issued a joint statement backing former President Donald Trump’s immigration policies. The governors expressed their unified support for Trump’s approach, which includes the deportation of illegal immigrants who are seen as threats to national security and public safety.
In the statement, the governors emphasized their commitment to tackling the illegal immigration crisis. They criticized the Biden Administration for not securing the U.S. borders and enforcing the law, and highlighted the role of Republican governors in taking action. “When the Biden Administration refused to secure our borders and uphold the rule of law, it was Republican governors who took action. We mobilized state resources, including law enforcement and National Guard units, to protect Americans from disastrous open border policies,” the statement read.
Governor McMaster’s leadership on this issue marks his first official action as the policy chair of the Republican Governors Association.
The governors who signed the statement alongside McMaster include:
- Governor Kay Ivey (Alabama)
- Governor Mike Dunleavy (Alaska)
- Governor Sarah Sanders (Arkansas)
- Governor Ron DeSantis (Florida)
- Governor Brian Kemp (Georgia)
- Governor Brad Little (Idaho)
- Governor Eric Holcomb (Indiana)
