Shocking Shooting of Jewish Man in Democrat-Controlled City Sparks Debate on Illegal Immigration Status

by Hyacinth

A suspect charged with shooting a Jewish man multiple times while he was heading to a synagogue in Chicago is identified as Sidi Mohamed Abdallahi, a Mauritanian national and illegal immigrant. Fox News has confirmed that Abdallahi was apprehended by Border Patrol in San Diego in March 2023 and was subsequently released into the United States.

The shooting occurred on Saturday morning in the West Rogers Park neighborhood. Police reported that Abdallahi attacked a 39-year-old man, who was dressed in traditional Jewish clothing. Authorities located the suspect within 30 minutes of the incident. During the encounter, Abdallahi allegedly fired at responding officers, who returned fire, striking him. The victim survived the attack.

Ongoing Investigation

Law enforcement is currently investigating the shooting, which has left the local Jewish community feeling shaken. Police recovered a weapon from the scene, and Abdallahi was taken into custody, treated at a local hospital, and charged with 14 felonies, including six counts of attempted murder.

Mauritania, located in northwest Africa, is predominantly Muslim. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) considers illegal immigrants from Mauritania as “special interest aliens,” requiring additional vetting due to security concerns.

Initially, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) claimed they had no prior interaction with Abdallahi. However, law enforcement sources have indicated that there is a detainer request for him, meaning that he should be transferred to ICE custody if released. Local “sanctuary” policies in Cook County, Illinois, hinder cooperation with such requests.

Local Jewish leaders suspect the shooting was a targeted hate crime, though no hate crime charges have yet been filed.

Increase in Mauritanian Immigrants

The incident highlights a rising number of Mauritanian immigrants in the U.S. Recent reports indicate that towns like Lockland, Ohio, are experiencing significant pressure from the influx of newcomers. In 2023 alone, over 15,000 Mauritanians arrived in the U.S., marking a staggering 2,800% increase compared to just 543 in 2022.

Concerns persist regarding potential terrorist threats entering through the southern border amidst the ongoing border crisis. A House report from August revealed that between fiscal years 2021 and 2023, DHS released at least 99 illegal immigrants on the terrorist watchlist after Border Patrol encounters.

The report also noted that immigration judges granted bond to at least 27 migrants on the watchlist. Additionally, tens of thousands of migrants from countries with national security risks have been encountered at the border, including nationals from Afghanistan, China, Iran, Syria, and Uzbekistan.

The threat from foreign nationals has garnered attention recently, especially following the arrest of an Afghan national accused of planning a terror attack on Election Day. This individual had been paroled into the U.S. during the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan.
