Federal Government Tightens Study Permit Rules, Impacting International Students.
In January, the federal government announced a cap on international study permits for 2024. Last month, Immigration Minister Marc Miller indicated that this cap would be reduced even further.
As a result of these changes, thousands of international students are unable to start their fall semester at three colleges in Ontario. School officials believe the drop in enrollment is due to the government’s stricter policies, which have created uncertainty and led to delays in visa processing.
