Swiss Authorities Approve 97% of Visa Requests from Thai Nationals in 2023.
Swiss authorities granted a total of 42,252 visa requests from Thai applicants in 2023. This approval rate reflects that over 97% of all visa applications from Thai nationals were successful.
According to data from SchengenVisaInfo, Thailand ranks fifth in terms of the highest approval rates for Swiss visas, trailing behind Australia, New Zealand, Chile, and Taiwan, as reported by Schengen.News.
Despite the high approval rate, Swiss authorities were cautious with multiple-entry visas. Only 8,587 visas, or 20.32%, allowed multiple entries. This means most Thai visitors to the Schengen Area were granted single-entry visas only.
Thailand Leads in Schengen Visa Applications to Switzerland
In 2023, Switzerland received the highest number of visa applications from Thai nationals, totaling 43,441 out of 270,504 applications submitted. France was the second most popular destination, receiving 42,715 requests, while Germany ranked third with 40,877 applications. Italy followed with 30,757 visa requests. Together, these four countries—Switzerland, France, Germany, and Italy—accounted for over half (58.3%) of all applications submitted by Thai nationals in 2023.
High Approval Rates for Thai Visa Applicants in Schengen Countries
Thai applicants enjoyed a favorable approval rate for their Schengen visa requests in 2023. As the tenth largest source of visa applications, Thailand’s approval rates are noteworthy. Data shows that out of 270,504 applications filed, 93.16% (or 252,013) were granted. This positions Thailand as the 28th country with the highest approval rates for the year.
The following countries were the most likely to grant Schengen visas to Thai nationals in 2023 based on the percentage of approvals:
Austria: 97.46% approval rate (12,873 visas granted)
Switzerland: 97.26% approval rate (42,252 visas granted)
Czechia: 96.14% approval rate (3,060 visas granted)
Italy: 96.08% approval rate (29,551 visas granted)
Portugal: 96.01% approval rate (2,481 visas granted)
Conversely, the countries with the highest rejection rates for Thai applicants included Sweden (16.57%), Poland (14.22%),
Belgium (13.87%), the Netherlands (87.34%), and Finland (89.64%).
